Guest guest
>Does anyone know of >vegetarian or vegan restaurants in the metro Washington DC area? Thanks! > >Karen Hi Karen & all. Someone had asked for this earlier & I still have the list (I live in DC.) These places, except Vegetable Garden, are not completely vegetarian, but have many veggie choices. Look at this site for good vegan places http://www.vegdc.com/ Be patient, it takes awhile to load. Anyway here are some great places: Restaurant Nora 2132 Florida Avenue NW (all organically grown ingredients- fancy & somewhat pricey) India Gate 2408 18th street NW (this is in the Adams Morgan neighborhood-a great place with lots of restaurants) Jandara 4237 Wisconsin Avenue 202-237-1570 (good Thai) Vegetable Garden 11618 Rockville Pike Rockville, MD (this is out in Maryland-but well worth the trip, inexpensive too) Red Tomato 2030 M street NW (Italian) Lebanese Taverna 2641 Connecticut Avenue NW (excellent!) Maggianos Little Italy 5333 Wisconsin Avenue NW 202-966-2593 (huge portions) Jaleo 480 7th street NW (best tapas in town!)
Guest guest
Hi! I wanted to second Restaurant Nora and Jaleo as great choices for vegetarian food in DC, and through in one more suggestion... Georgia Brown's (950 15th St., NW, bet. I & K Sts, near the White House) serves nouveau southern food. The restaurant is not vegetarian but has 3 vegetarian entrees on their lunch and dinner menu(I do not know if they are vegan but they could be.) My personal favorite is the vegetarian " chicken " croquettes, they are far better than any chicken substitute I have tried. For starters, the fried green tomatoes, which are stuffed with cream cheese and herbs, are unbelievable and the house salad, is one of the best I have ever had. It's a bit pricey and the lunch menu is not discounted, but portions are large and the quality is exceptional.
