Guest guest
Hi, I'm introducing myself as requested..... I'm John, 52 year old male on the Gold Coast of Queensland in Australia, who found this list just by searching for 'vegetarian' at Don't know where I fit in the scheme of things, I believe that there are as many different kind vegetarians as there are people claiming to be one. I'm my own special brand of vegetarian. I mention this simply because I've be confronted by many who ask what kind of vegetarian I am, whether it be vegan, lacto, or whatever the multitude of titles you want to give it. I don't want to fit into anybody else's box than my own. I have slowly weened myself off of meat and meat products over a very long period. I had to change my whole attitude toward eating, and had to ultimately forgive myself for not being perfect at it, after quite a number of years of what I perceived to be failure because I just couldn't work out what I was supposed to eat. I still eat the occasional seafood dish, and sushi has been the hardest thing for me to give up, but I think I've finally lost interest in it. I don't particularly like meat and never did as I recall. Although there were a few dishes that I favoured over most. I won't go into that, as its not particularly relevant. Salads seem to be a great option here, as well as fruit and fruit smoothies. I still eat cheese, and butter, but shy away from cows milk, I use soy instead..... I don't like soy cheese or margarine..... The reason I've enrolled with this and a couple of other vegetarian topic lists is to try and learn more about it from those of you who I might perceive to be a little more experienced in these matters than I. Therefore I'm not sure if I have anything to offer in the way of recipes for your indulgence. If that makes me a lurker and not eligible to glean some of your experience, then I'm disappointed, but no doubt there are other groups who may or may not accept the likes of me. I will continue to browse the groups until I find what I am looking for, meanwhile thanks for accepting me initially and I hope that we may all learn something from our shared experiences... particularly with regard to the vegetarian diet. I am a single man who isn't averse to standing before the stove or cutting board, in fact I've served my time in kitchens, whether it be as an apprentice nearly 35 yrs ago, or as a dish hand more recently to supplement my income. In between I served as a breakfast grill chef in California on one of my long term visits to the USA. So what I am saying here is that I will make good use of any information I might acquire during my stay with you all. Just one other rather important point I think, is that I live in a rather hot/humid climate, and cooking is something that I've found I don't do, or want to do as much as I used to. sorry if its rather long winded, but I felt I needed to explain myself considering the guidelines I've found at some of these lists. thanks, I look forward to sharing with some of you, cheers, John _______________________ Get Your Private, Free E-mail from MSN Hotmail at http://www.hotmail.com.
