Guest guest
Hello everyone, My name is Alexia, and I live with my dh and dd (23 mo.) in Ottawa, Canada. I'm really looking forward to taking part in this list and sharing ideas. I've been a veggie for almost ten years, a choice which I made for all the usual good reasons, but mostly because of my concern for animals. In fact, it's the images from the book Diet for a New America that usually keeps me on the straight and narrow. However, I have to admit - I might as well come out of the closet right now - that I like the taste of meat and sometimes crave it. I give in and have a bit probably half a dozen times a year (we have a free range turkey at Christmas, and that kind of thing). My husband, just like yours, Alice, does eat meat and used to be a professional chef. He doesn't eat meat at home, anymore, but will eat it when he's out. He's had to overcome a bit of food snobbery over the years and try and find some gourmet veggie recipes. Since he's a real mushroom lover, as well, he's used them very creatively to make some fabulous dishes that even meat lovers love. By the way, I just got a book out from the library called The Vegetarian Epicure. Not all the recipes are very quick, but they certainly will please a gourmet palate. I highly recommend it. Anyway, since my dh does most of the cooking, I'm going to have to torture him to give up some of his recipes to send to you all. Meanwhile, my best tip is to cook from scratch, but to cook in quanitity and freeze in batches. I don't know if any of you do once-a-month cooking (everything I can find on the web seems *very* meat oriented) but we use some of the ideas around here to make our lives easier. Cheers, Alexia
