Guest guest
Interested to hear about your surgery - what exactly did you have done, to your actual stomach? I can feel for you when you say how good it is to be pain free of this problem. I suffered severe " heartburn " - reflux oesophagitis - from my first pregnancy, was told it would go away after the birth. It never did. Apparently I produce too much acid, and also have a severely inflamed and " thin " stomach lining, caused by years of acidity. 5 years ago I was severely ill while in France, doctor called, said I had an ulcer and ever since I've been on the prescribed medication. It was supposed to be for 2-3 months but whenever I stop taking it, it is agony. My stomach, and the awful acid rising up my throat, into my mouth - yuck. I have no choice but to remain on the prescribed medication. Probably different names in the US and UK, I was on Zoton for 4 years and this year Losec. Losec active ingredient is omeprozole, can't remember off-hand what Zoton is. I'd run the market dry of over-the-counter medications such as Zantac and similar. Carrie - if you have any joy trying alternative therapies, do let me know? What exactly do you intend trying? Good luck. Guest guest
Liz asked about my operation for acid reflux. It was so nifty. This young whippersnapper of a doctor did it with lasers. Instead of a big nasty incision there were just little tiny cuts. I don't know the fancy medical term for this (but I will ask my Sweetie tomorrow - he's asleep right now), but it involves wrapping the upper part of the stomach around the esophagus. If you look at a picture of the stomach, you'll see that there is this bit of stomach above where the esophagus comes in. That's what gets wrapped, and how they do that with lasers I have no idea. When I woke up from the anesthetic I could tell immediately that the operation was a success. As soon as I came to consciousness I knew I was fixed. And what a relief! I had been in so much pain, and I was stuffing myself with Pepcid and Zantac, so much so that the nurse was shocked when I told her how much of that stuff I was using - and it still wasn't enough. As I mentioned, I don't have as large a capacity as I did before. But not to worry! I still can eat enough to gain weight! I still have to be on a reducing diet. The difference is that before the operation I could eat till I was full, and the feeling of fullness would come on gradually. And then if there was more on the plate I could still shovel more in there. But now I can't do that. Instead of feeling full gradually I feel full suddenly, and I have to stop right there. If I try to cram still more in (and heaven knows I really LOVE food) I will feel really uncomfortable and tight. I'll pay a price for gluttony. Keep us posted and let us know what you do, whether surgery or alternative remedies. Cheers, Lauranz ______________ YOU'RE PAYING TOO MUCH FOR THE INTERNET! Juno now offers FREE Internet Access!
