I've been lurking here for about 4 weeks, so I thought it was time I

introduced myself. I'm Brandel. My husband, four kids, and I live in

Jerusalem, Israel. I've been a vegetarian for 25 years (as of this coming

December), my husband for 23 (since we started dating :)), and my kids

their entire lives. (And they are disgusted by the idea of eating

animals!) We're lacto-ovo. Israel doesn't have the availability of such a

wide variety of foods (especially " specialty " foods like a lot of

vegetarian products) compared to the US, and things tend to be expensive,

but it's slowly improving.

My favorite cookbook that hasn't been mentioned yet is _American

Wholefoods Cuisine_ by Goldbeck and Goldbeck. It doesn't have a lot of

vegan recipes, but it's very good for what we need, and it has a lot of

international recipes. But I'm very used to " fixing " recipes to make them

work for us. In fact, I don't think I've used any recipe (including my

own) exactly as written in a long, *long* time! I just can't seem to

follow instructions without making little improvements (and they almost

always are--in fact, a friend of mine gave me a recipe she wanted to try,

and we both made it...she liked mine better).

there is an awesome mollie katzen book called Sundays at Moosewood

Resraurant. it is a collection of international recipes that are converted

to veggie dishes. VERY impressive.

ISBN 0-671-67990-2.
