Guest guest
Hello, everyone! We're new to the list. We are a family of 4 consisting of me, my husband and our 2 children (ages 4 and 6-1/2). We are all vegetarians (i.e., no meat, poultry or fish. We eat soy cheese and use soy-substitute products, but do eat some dairy - including cheese - on occasion. We also use and eat sugar, though we attempt to limit this with our kids. I have been a vegetarian the longest - almost 20 years now. I have accumulated tons of vegetarian recipes and/or cookbooks of the years. (Heck, I've even made pilgrimages out of journeying to Moosewood Restaurant and Cabbagetown Cafe in New York!) We are, however, always looking for recipes that our kids will enjoy so I thought I'd give this e-group a try. I would be happy to share some recipes that have worked for us so far, too. Thank you - and here's looking forward to the exchange! Brenda
Guest guest
Hi Brenda and welcome. I'm excited to see someone else on the list with young children and would love to hear about some of your recipes that the kids enjoy. We're a vegetarian (lacto-ovo) household too. I've been vegetarian for about 15 years and my partner about same amount of time. Our daughter (nearly 28 months) is a great eater and has only gone through minor picky stages, but I'm always looking for good kid-friendly vegetarian dishes. She loves tofu, esp. and is a great green veggie eater. She's not much for beans, lentils or root veggies. Any type of Asian food (Thai, Chinese, Japanese, Laotian) goes over really well. We've just started letting her eat some nuts and seeds, so sesame and tahini are now ok. However, many fun vegetarian recipes (esp. some casseroles and noodle dishes) call for peanut butter, which we aren't letting her have until atleast age 3. So I'm also looking for peanutbutter free recipes or ones where other nut butters are an acceptable alternative. Again welcome and I'll look forward to any ideas you might want to share.
