Hello all,

My friend and her husband recently moved to Indiana and she is having

trouble finding Veggie products in supermarkets or restaurants that serve

vegetarian food or that will accommodate for vegetarians. She is not 100%

vegetarian, but does eat that way most of the time. Is there anyone on here

from Indiana that could give my friend some advice? I will forward the

replies onto her. Thanks for your help.

Danielle,

I don't live in Indiana, but I do live in Louisiana, and they literally eat

everything that moves here. You don't say whether your friends are living

in a larger town or a really small one. If they have larger supermarkets in

their area, try asking the manager to stock certain items. I am sure they

are not the only vegetarians in town. Greek/Lebanese restaurants usually

have some items which are animal free, as do Chinese and Indian. Mostly, I

have found that if I explain what I want to either the manager or the chef,

they do their best to try and accommodate me. They could also try mail

order over the Internet. Also, there must be some health stores somewhere

there. Even if they can only make a trip there once a month, most things

are sealed and will freeze or will keep a while. We used to live in Panama

City, Florida, which is a small city. Even there, though they have a good

health/vegetarian food store. I know how isolating being veggie or vegan

can be sometimes - so tell them not to give up. Try leaving a message on

the message board at Vegsource.com - there may be someone living there who

will give some advice.

All the best. Pam.
