Guest guest
hi betz! I am 16 too, and i became vegetarian about 6-8 months ago. I know how it feels to have a carnivorous family. I am having a very difficult time trying to get them to eat vegetarian food. One thing you might want to try is Bocca Burger Recipe Crumbles. My family didn't believe that they are fake! You can add them to chili, or mix them with ketchup, form into a patty, and cook it on the stovetop. You also might want to try Okara patties, they taste like the chicken on a chicken filet sandwich. Another great idea is to buy stuff by Morningstar Farms. They have a ton of things that taste like your basic american meals. I prefer more unusual stuff, but this keeps my family happy. Another thing you should do is try making or buying various ethnic foods, or dining at ethnic restaurants with your family. Many ethnic groups eat a lot of vegetarian foods. Try Indian or Middle Eastern. Those are popular with my family. As for cheese having ingredients that are not vegetarian-friendly, you are correct. Most cheeses contain rennet which is from the lining of a calf's stomach. I think certain websites may list the cheeses that don't contain them, but I don't know which ones. I try to stick to Veggie Slices, which are a soy cheese. They are not vegan since they contatin milk proteins, but they don't contain rennet. Oh yeah, there are a lot of recipes at www.vegweb.com. Check it out! Hope I helped. Write me if you have any questions. Liz
