Guest guest
In regards to the previously published: TEN STEPS TO LIFELONG HEALTH Item #1) Reduce or eliminate meat, dairy, and refined sugar products. I understand how refined sugar products can be listed in the above as a suggested item to reduce or eliminate especially if one has related health concerns. Even though I have strived towards a vegetarian diet for the past 27 years I now question the assumption that non-vegetarian foods are in and of themselves unhealthy. My own original motivation towards a vegetarian diet came after getting food poisoning from bad processed luncheon meat. I never knew if there options for me in avoiding a repeat performance and just took the route of avoidance. I have known that what is obviously unhealthy is the " additives " and the other non-food elements that are put into what use to be healthy sources of food for people. What for centuries was considered good wholesome food " suddenly " changed in the early part of this century when the modern adulterating practices began. I agree that most " factory " farming methods of working with animals is cruel to the animals and harmful to the environment however this in and of itself does not mean humans should't include animal sources of food in their diet. I think their is an intimate relationship to work with between man and animals as well as the rest of nature and that what is needed is more thoughtfulness on all our relationships. Farms, where most of our food comes from, need animals and their " products " for the health and very life of the farm land: the soil. It is possible to have a healthy inclusion of animals and their " gifts " to humankind. It simply has not been demonstrated to most of us yet. I'd like to cultivate a healthy demonstration.
