It's getting to be apple time. (Actually, for me, it's never NOT

apple time, but you know what I mean--here in middle and northeast

America, the good local ones are starting to come in. :)) So here

are three recipes.

Title: Bavarian-style apples and veggiedogs

Keywords: main dishes, fruit

x

1 Medium onion, cut in wedges

2 Stalks celery, sliced

2 Golden Delicious apples [or something more tart]

1 lb vegetarian wieners (veggiedogs)

1/2 c Water, divided

1/4 c Brown sugar

1/4 c Cider vinegar

1 t Caraway seeds

3/4 t Salt

1 T Cornstarch

x

Melt butter or margarine in skillet. Add onion and celery; saute 3

minutes. Core apples and cut into wedges. Slice veggiedogs crosswise

in half; score diagonally. Add apples and 'dogs to skillet. Saute

for another 5 minutes.

x

Add 1/4 cup water, brown sugar, vinegar, caraway seeds and salt.

Cover and simmer gently until apples and vegetables are tender.

Dissolve cornstarch in remaining 1/4 cup water. Stir into liquid

in skillet. Cook a few more minutes until thickened and clear.
