(Actually, for me, it's never NOT apple time, but you know what I mean--here in middle and northeast America, the good local ones are starting to come in. ) So here are three recipes. x Title: Bavarian-style apples and veggiedogs Keywords: main dishes, fruit x 1 Medium onion, cut in wedges 2 Stalks celery, sliced 2 Golden Delicious apples [or something more tart] 1 lb vegetarian wieners (veggiedogs) 1/2 c Water, divided 1/4 c Brown sugar 1/4 c Cider vinegar 1 t Caraway seeds 3/4 t Salt 1 T Cornstarch x Melt butter or margarine in skillet. Add onion and celery; saute 3 minutes. Core apples and cut into wedges. Slice veggiedogs crosswise in half; score diagonally. Add apples and 'dogs to skillet. Saute for another 5 minutes. x Add 1/4 cup water, brown sugar, vinegar, caraway seeds and salt. Cover and simmer gently until apples and vegetables are tender. Dissolve cornstarch in remaining 1/4 cup water. Stir into liquid in skillet. Cook a few more minutes until thickened and clear. x From a newspaper clipping, ia Joan MacDiarmid x -End Recipe Export- -Begin Recipe Export- QBook version 1.00.14 x Title: Buckwheat Applesauce Bread Keywords: breads, automatic breadmaker Yield: 1 loaf x 2 tsp Yeast 1 c Unbleached flour 3/4 c Bread flour 1/4 c Buckwheat flour 1/2 c Applesauce 1 ts Salt 1 Tbsp Vegetable oil 1/2 c Water x Place all ingredients in machine and push START. x -End Recipe Export- -Begin Recipe Export- QBook version 1.00.14 x Title: apple pie bread Keywords: bread, fruit, desserts x 3 C Flour 1 C Sugar 4 Tsp Baking Powder 1 Tsp Salt 1 Tsp Ground Cinnamon 1 Tsp Cloves 1 1/2 C Milk 1 Egg 2 Tbsp Oil 1 1/2 C Apples unpeeled and diced x Preheat oven to 350F. Grease 9x5 inch loaf pan. Mix together wet ingredients with the dry ones until well blended.
