Guest guest
I was given several cans of canned tomatoes, any recipes using them up? I have plenty of rice and barley if that helps. Thanks for all the recipes posted. Gypsy

I must use a couple of cans a week.
Guest guest
Re: Hi Everyone Crockpot Recipe Request You are fortunate to have all these cans of tomatoes! I have made a fairly good " creamy " tomato soup by blending canned tomatoes, seasonings (sauteed or chopped dried onions, a little garlic (as desired), a pinch each of basil and thyme, seasoned salt, lemon pepper and maybe (you can omit) a pinch of sugar) with a small amount of SILKEN tofu until it's smooth. You can also thin this down with extra tomato juice or plain soy milk, if you like it more or less " creamy " . I found the silken tofu is really great to get that smooth, " creamy " texture for a soup-base. Using canned tomatoes is EASY and FAST for a nice soup! I used to use the " Campbell " soups (tomato & mushroom in particular) for thickening and " gravy " in stews and cassseroles. Yeah, it was tasty, but at some point I knew I should NOT be doing that--all the sodium and, well, just being without meat or broth didn't make them healthy, so I made the decision to make my soups from scratch myself instead. This tomato soup is one I really like and it can also be used as an ingredient in something else--any other recipe that might call for " a can of tomato soup " . Good wishes to you! Those cans can come in handy for a fast meal ingredient! --Laura B., in Illinois
