Creamy Italian Fondue

3 cups shredded Fontina cheese

3/4 cup half and half

1 tablespoon unsalted butter -- melted

1/2 small clove garlic -- pressed

2 egg yolks

2 tablespoons hot milk

1/4 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper

chunks of crusty bread

 

In slow cooker stoneware, combine cheese and half and half. Cover and cook on

low for 1 hour. Increase heat to high.

 

In a small bowl, combine melted butter and garlic. Pour mixture into cheese

mixture, stirring well, until thoroughly combined and the cheese is completely

melted.

 

In a bowl, beat egg yolks with hot milk. Add to cheese mixture, stirring to

thoroughly combine. Add pepper and stir.

 

Spear bread with fondue forks and dip in sauce, ensuring that guests have

napkins or plates to catch any dripping sauce.
