Tangy Red Cabbage with Apples

Amount Measure Ingredient -- Preparation Method

3 pounds red cabbage -- shredded (about 10 cups)

2 Granny Smith apples -- peeled, cored & thinly sliced

1 onion -- sliced

1/4 cup red wine vinegar

1/4 cup packed brown sugar

2 tablespoons butter or margarine

1/2 cup water

1 teaspoon salt

1 teaspoon celery seed

1/2 teaspoon black pepper

 

In slow cooker, toss together cabbage, apples, and onion slices.

 

In a saucepan over medium-high heat, combine vinegar, brown sugar, butter,

water, salt, celery seed, and pepper. Bring mixture to a boil, reduce heat, and

simmer for 1 minute until butter is melted and sugar is dissolved. Pour over

cabbage mixture in slow cooker.

 

Cover and cook on low for 4 to 6 hours or until cabbage is tender.
