I'm wondering why I see sugar substitutes in many

vegan recipes. Is there something 'bad' about sugar

that I don't know?

Paige:

Many vegetarians, especially vegans, do not eat sugar because most

brans are filtered through animal bone char. It does not actually

contain any animal products (unless, perhaps, a minute amount of the

bone char gets in the sugar). One brand of sugar that does not filter

through bone char is Florida Crystals.

Hope this helps explain things.
