Bring to a simmer, and then lower the heat and continue to simmer until the cream has reduced by one third. Chill thoroughly. To serve, put the prunes and any cooking liquid in a large attractive pitcher. Pour the reduced cream over the top. Lade the prunes and cream into small bowls.
