Soak beans overnight in enough water to cover by several inches. Rinse and drain. Place soaked beans in a 3 1/2 quart crockpot. Pour in 5 cups water, cover and cook on low for 5 to 7 hours or on high for 3 to 4 hours, until desired tenderness.
