Guest guest Posted February 27, 2001 Report Share Posted February 27, 2001 Boston Brown Bread Makes 2 loaves 1/2 cup whole wheat flour 1/4 cup all-purpose flour 1/4 cup yellow cornmeal 1/2 tsp. baking powder 1/4 tsp. baking soda 1/4 tsp. salt 1 beaten egg 1/4 cup molasses 2 tbsp. sugar 2 tsp. cooking oil 3/4 cup buttermilk or sour milk 2 tbsp. raisins Stir together first 6 ingredients. Combine egg, molasses, sugar and oil. Add flour mixture to molasses mixture alternately with buttermilk; beat well. Stir in raisins. Turn batter into two well-greased 16 oz. vegetable cans. Cover cans tightly with foil. Place cans in crockpot. Cover and cook on HIGH for 3 hrs. Remove cans from cooker; cool 10 min. in cans. Serve warm.
