I really enjoyed reading all the answers shared by those

of you who did so far.

 

I tend to see questions like this, when asked me for whatever

reason or motive of the asker, as an opportunity to share

and maybe for them to come away with a different/better

understanding of what vegetarianism is.

 

As far as plant sentience goes, I say we cannot know.

Bottom line is all must eat, so in choosing how I eat and

take from this earth, I choose as gentle a path as I can.

I then give them a few facts about how much raising

one pound of animal flesh for eating costs. Did you know

it takes 16 pounds of grain and 2,500 gallons of water to

produce one pound of meat? I doubt many people who eat

meat on a regular basis have ever think of that. By eating

even a few delicious meatless meals a week we can all be a

part of helping to conserve and use wisely our planet's

precious resources. Then I tell them that I choose to do

this every day because it makes me feel better both

physically and spiritually. They usually cannot argue or

debate with that.

Gene's right about " the secret life of plants " book.

It's definitely worth a read by all veggies.

 

Plant sentience...great topic for later.
