This is served over homemade biscuits or apple dumplings. You can

also serve it over ice cream or any dessert that needs a basic

homemade topping. If you're going to make biscuits - get a large box

of Jiffy Baking Mix and you'll find many excellent recipes on the box

including a very good - easy - recipe for homemade biscuits. I

prefer Jiffy to any of the other mixes and it's very inexpensive for

a large box - about $1.65. I'm a partial vegetarian [will explain

another time] but I'm sure that the stricter vegetarians in this

group can find substitutes for the ingredients in this recipe. This

is an old country/southern recipe and it's great tasting; so,

here it is:

CHOCOLATE GRAVY:

You will need:

2 cups of sugar

6 tablespoons of flour

6 teaspoons of unsweetened cocoa powder

6 cups of milk

butter

How to make the gravy:

Combine the sugar, flour, and cocoa in a medium saucepan off the

heat. Stir in the milk. Cook and stir over medium heat until the

sauce thickens. Add butter for extra richness. This recipe will

make 6 cups of gravy for all to:

ENJOY!

Thanks for the recipe, Don. Just a quick note of

caution to our vegetarian members reading it, but Jiffy

brand mixes do contain LARD, which is a 4-letter word

for animal fat. Do avoid using those if you try this recipe

and are a vegetarian. However, Don is quite correct in

stating that there are available mixes similar that

are still vegetarian. Read labels. :)

Don, I was wondering about the ingredients in the Jiffy baking mix.

I've never used their baking mix, but I quit using their muffin mixes

because they contain LARD. (To me, this is unbelievable! and

disappointing...) Have you checked the ingredients in the baking mix?
