I remember one book I read about the Quaker colony on Nantucket Island during the time of the Essex whaling boat tragedy and they were rather strick xtain sounding in their principle beliefs. Wonderful book if you ever like reading about historical accounts. Early Quakers certainly were very Christian in their beliefs, and things became very ... strict ... in the 19th century. Quakers have moved away from that (IMO unQuakerly) strictness - people don't get read out of meeting for marrying a non-Quaker these days, for example, as did happen in the 19th century).
