Quakerism explained

Thank you, Lee-Gwen. (and thanks to Pixx too).

I hadn't been following this 'discussion' as closely as I might have

done, because I was rather put off by the, to me,

disingenuous-query-followed-by-attack approach (those of you old enough

to remember Eric Berne's _Games People Play_ will recognize 'rapo'). I

am not saying, please understand, that that is exactly what was

happening, just that it seemed that way to me.

But, pushed to explain, you have done a beautiful job, without rancour,

of putting a Quaker position forward - and I think you ought to be

commended for not only the clarity of your explanation but also your

restraint.

DaveO has already expressed how he feels. Without wanting to sound

overly sentimental, I would also say that although I am a non-Quaker

myself (no god, to me, you see) I had a lot of association with Quaker

groups back in the 'seventies when we lived in Massachusetts, and when

we moved briefly to Philadelphia we sent our son to Friends Select. He

is not a Quaker, but the values he learned there have followed him

through life - he is now 42 - and he still speaks with affection of the

school and its staff (the only school of which he speaks this way).

I wish you all the very best I have to wish ;=)

Thank you and I am glad that your son had such a good experience at a Quaker

school.
