Guest guest
Hi all, I'm from Santa Cruz where I just watched a local community TV talk with Julia Butterfly Hill and the Sempervirons. I've kept up with Julia since she first climbed Luna and have been in solidarity with the movement since it was called Ecology in the early 70's, but still to this day I am amazed at the lack of concern for truth and reality when it comes to cannabis/hemp as an alternative to slaughtering and clearcutting trees. I am very sorry that some humans feel profits over ride health and safety of the population. Profits on killing trees when viable alternatives are presently grown in 32 countries. Profits on the very prohibition of the alternatives is almost beyond reasoning. Yet that is the case with the present administration and drugczar profiting on hemp prohibition. By eliminating competition/alternatives and by the war itself from Dyncorps technology to Monsanto eradication poisons in Colombia and the U.S rural areas. 99% of the so called " marijuana " eradications are non psychoactive ditchweed hemp. While the media stays silent and the people protest separately in minority. Perpetuating the prison industry along with the petro chemicals and Phrmaceuticals, Meat and grain also in competition with the planets most nutritionally complete food source. It is way past time we set aside our differences and join in solidarity with the many other groups sharing the same enemy abusing the earth and its living inhabitants. The first Saturday in May over 100 cities worldwide will be marching for peace in the Ganjawar. How can we protest foreign war when we watch our neighbors go to prison for medicine? This is simply maintaining dysfunction. Thanks for all your work, but please don't stigmatize your allies by shunning hemps contribution to the past and future growth of this country. Without hemp we would have no sails on the ships, no rope or rigging or covered wagons or tents or burlap bags or canvas for Rembrandt to paint on. My clothing, made of hemp is softer and stronger than the chemical cotton or crude oil polyester and yet even the environmentalist shun it or keep it hidden on the back burner. Cannabis prohibition started with rascism to spread fear using Hearst publications in the 30's with the end result of keeping hemp out of the so called free trade market and implimenting the fossil fuel and genetically engineered foods and chemical treatments. Don't fear the truth, join us in solidarity to end this poisoning for profits. Thanks, a response would be welcomed... A L T E R N A T I V E S ..,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,. A Brief Summary of the Uses of Hemp http://www.jackherer.com/book/ch02.html Cannabis Building Materials & Housing Because one acre of hemp produces as much cellulose fiber pulp as 4.1 acres of trees,* hemp is the perfect material to replace trees for pressed board, particle board and for concrete construction molds. *Dewey & Merrill, Bulletin #404, United States Dept. of Agriculture, 1916. Practical, inexpensive fire-resistant construction material, with excellent thermal and sound-insulating qualities, is made by heating and compressing plant fibers to creat strong construction paneling, replacing dry wall and plywood. William B. Conde of Conde's Redwood Lumber, Inc. near Eugene, Oregon, in conjunction with Washington State University (1991-1993), has demonstrated the superior strength, flexibility, and economy of hemp composite building materials compared to wood fiber, even as beams. Isochanvre, a rediscovered French building material made from hemp hurds mixed with lime, actually petrifies into a mineral state and lasts for many centuries. Archeologists have found a bridge in the south of France, from the Merovingian period (500-751 A.D.), built with this process. (See Chenevotte habitat of Rene, France in Appendix I.) Hemp has been used throughout history for carpet backing. Hemp fiber has potential in the manufacture of strong, rot resistant carpeting - eliminating the poisonous fumes of burning synthetic materials in a house or commercial fire, along with allergic reactions associated with new synthetic carpeting. Plastic plumbing pipe (PVC pipes) can be manufactured using renewable hemp cellulose as the chemical feedstocks, replacing non-renewable coal or petroleum-based chemical feedstocks. So we can envision a house of the future built, plumbed, painted and furnished with the world's number-one renewable resource - hemp. When Hemp Saved George Bush's Life One more example of the importance of hemp: Five years after cannabis hemp was outlawed in 1937, it was promptly reintroduced for the World War II effort in 1942. So, when the young pilot, George Bush, baled out of his burning airplane after a battle over the Pacific, little did he know: - Parts of his aircraft engine were lubricated with cannabis hempseed oil; - 100 percent of his life-saving parachute webbing was made from U.S. grown cannabis hemp; - Virtually all the rigging and ropes of the ship that pulled him in were made of cannabis hemp. - The fire hoses on the ship (as were those in the schools he had attended) were woven from cannabis hemp; and, - Finally, as young George Bush stood safely on the deck, his shoes' durable stitching was of cannabis hemp, as it is in all good leather and military shoes to this day. Yet Bush has spent a good deal of his career eradicating the cannabis plant and enforcing laws to make certain that no one will learn this information - possibly including himself. . . Guest guest
I basically agree with what you said, especially the last paragraph. I am personally infavor of the legalization of marjuana for any use... but my question to you is, what do you think we can do about it? I purchase hemp bread because it is very nutritious... but it costs a fortune (e.g. $5 for a very small loave). someone who has an entire family to support probably cannot feed their family hemp, not to mention clothing them with it, buying hemp paper and ink, etc. it is the same with organic foods, unfortunately. i try to buy organic, but they have outrageous prices unless you are lucky enough to catch a good sale. this is of course because government funding on other products makes the alternatives much cheaper, and the market for organics remains very small by comparison.. of course saving money is not a proper moral justification- if you can afford the alternatives. large corporations could probably afford the switch to environmentally friendly products and means of production, though they'd lose a great deal of money without corporate welfare backing them up.. the average citizen however probably can't afford to buy only the environmentally friendly products. at best they can abstain from as many environmentally unfriendly products as they can afford. , DdC <dendecannabist> wrote: > Hi all, > > I'm from Santa Cruz where I just watched a local community TV talk with > Julia Butterfly Hill and the Sempervirons.
