Guest guest
Recently I was listening to Coast to Coast radio show with George Noori, the guy who replaced Art Bell. He had on Richard C. Hoagland as a guest, whom many of you may or may not be familiar with. But anyway, he was nattering on about how many benefits we now enjoy b/c of the money having been spent on space exploration. One of the benefits that stuck in my mind as I was listening and drifting off into the land of Nod, was that we would all likely not have the computers we have now, or be enjoying the use of the computer technology we have currently without all the advances that were pushed through for space exploration. Not sure if that is based on fact or not, but something I heard none the less. ~ PT ~ P.S. Laughing to myself at the thought of newbies just now reading posts and wondering what does space and computers, calf stomachs and spiders have to do with vegetarian topics? *lol* Washing one's hands of the conflict between the powerful and the powerless means to side with the powerful, not to be neutral. ~Paulo Freire, educator (1921-1997)
Guest guest
I also saw a recent news story on just that topic too, suggesting that many items attributed to the space program were not in fact so well pedigreed. The focus of the piece was that being connected with the space program seemed to provide a " touch of magic " for the product being advertised. As a result, many climbed on the bandwagon, when they were not even remotely spawned from such scientific efforts. The only example I remember with certainty is " Tang, " the breakfast drink. Never cared for it myself but many did.
