1960s term of opprobrium used by right wing buzz-cut red-necks to sneer at

peace protestors, the " nik " suffix being a slur indicating that anyone

protesting for peace or against the Viet Nam war was somehow aligned with

the Bolsheviks and other Russky Commie conspirators.

 

Ludicrous term all around.

hey, i've had a few people call me a beatnik because i'm into beat & slam

poetry (among other types of poetry). I consider it a badge of honor. :)

At least it shows someone thinks I'm different. *grin*
