Guest guest
Huh? I always thought it was " love thy neighbor as > thyself. " Shows what I > know... Yes, you're correct, that is the Christian principle. What I meant was that this form of religion concentrates on the afterlife. All that we do will lead up to this. Many >mostly fundamental< Christian sects put heavy emphasis on heaven and hell vs say, the Jewish faith which puts very little on it. They believe in heaven and hell but don't really talk about it. Christian leaders use it as a way to instill morals and values. If you are chaste and good, heaven awaits you...But if you sin, eternal damnation is your punishment. I was raised Catholic...And I was taught to fear hell. Which leads me to your other comment about the detriment of religions. I couldn't agree with you more. Humans have a long and full history of religious persecutions, wars, death and destruction. The Crusades, The Inquisition, The Witch Hunts, the hungry lions, etc. And I, being a pagan and midwife (student), am particularly sensitive about some of this history as well as the Patriarchal religions. However, once again I cannot carry this with me and my faith...All I can do is live as best and good as I can, teach my children the same and hope that others do that as well. I simply will not let hatred and ignorance shake my faith and beliefs. Nor will I let it interfere with my deep respect of faiths in all forms whether mine or not. You've got nothing to prove with me since I would never raise the issues the " other Dave " did. DaveO
