Guest guest
Hmmm, seems to me that " learning " is not the same as " knowing. " When I was a young child, I was told not to touch the wood heating stove because it would burn me. I knew " not to touch it " but had not learned the message behind it until I accidentally brushed a fully stoked stove. Only at that point did I learn " why " I should not touch the stove. So, I suggest that when one is " dead set " on a particular point, any knowing/hearing/reading on that point is **not the same as** learning. Dave PS. Are " words " inherently evil, or is that evil transferred to them by a speaker? Allison Nations [allyanne2001] Thursday, January 23, 2003 1:58 PM RE: Hot buttons! Sure it does. Just because you learn something new doesn't mean it's going to change you or your life. I evolve over time, I don't just change overnight because I learned something new and exciting that day. --- keith graves <sleepingtao wrote: > hmm.. not to interject, but doesnt that actually > mean > you AREN'T learning? you're just looking at > something, > then discarding it, knowing full well you weren't > going to adopt the idea before you even looked at > it. > If you learn something; it becomes part of you, and > always changes you, little by litte.. to say that > you > have 'learned' it, but you are unchanged, is a > little > fallacious. > > Speaking semantically, of course; words are evil. > > > --- Allison Nations <allyanne2001 wrote: > > Sure it is.
