Guest guest
Just out of curiousity, what were school lunches like when you were a lad? I remember we were served actual meals. Some common menu examples are: Macaroni and cheese spinach roll with butter apple crisp milk OR Meatloaf corn mashed potatoes roll and butter fruit cup milk I could go on, but I think most get my point. The veggies were over-cooked and most of the dishes had that " homemade but industrial " flavor to them, but they were as similar to a sit-down nuclear family evening meal as Archie Bunker was served by Edith. Now my son's weekly school lunch menu sounds like the kiddie menus at Applebees or TGIFridays. Chicken nuggets, fries, pizza, tater tots, mac & cheese with more fries, hotdogs, corndogs, cheeseburgers. They have a salad bar type thing where they can fetch fruit and some salad items, but think, how many kids do you think actually get up to will load on the salad fixings when they have pizza and fries right on their trays? Oh yeah, don't forget the healthy beverage of choice, chocolate milk. Bleh. :::begins to sing, " Those were the days....:::: ~ P_T ~ We allow our ignorance to prevail upon us and make us think we can survive alone, alone in patches, alone in groups, alone in races, even alone in genders. -Maya Angelou, poet (1928- ) ~~~*~~~*~~~*~~~~*~~~~~*~~~~*~~~*~~~~*~~~~~*~~~~*~~~~~~~~> , The Stewarts <stews9@c...> wrote: > > As far as the school lunches go, however, I believe this has > > been going on for quite some time, and I don't think prior > > administrations are any less guilty in this instance. > > Also quite right, began back when I was in school, which was Paleolithic I > believe.
