Guest guest
Hey, has anyone been reading the latest book by Barbara Kingsolver, Small Wonder? She is my absolute favorite contemporary author and in this book, it is a collection of essays, she is revealing more of her personal opinions than ever. There is one chapeter, Lily's Chickens that starts on page 109, that I really liked and found interesting from a veg prospective. She's not totally veg, but very earth aware. Before I go paraphrasing what she said and completly distorting her ideas, I would like someone else to tell me if they have read it. It is interesting at the least. The thing is, it really is in line with how I think, perhaps a bit more evolved and eloquently said, but the gist is there. The next chapter is on why she doesn't have a TV... I'm probably getting rid of my cable... not because of her, but she's helping in the push. Ok, well, if you havn't ever read her, may I reccomend some of her books. My favorite, though a hard read for a newly returned Peace Corps volunteer, Poisonwood Bible. A great book for the naturalist, A Prodigal Summer. Her older books like Animal Dreams, are also wonderful. But, the first two are her best yet... she's won tons of awards, was on Oprah (Poisonwood Bible is one of Oprah's book club selections) and yes, she is perhaps my only hero. OK, let me know... =) Genie New DSL Internet Access from SBC & http://sbc.
Guest guest
I have not yet read 'Small Wonder', but I love 'Poisonwood Bible'; I need to reread that one soon. There were so many good things in it. If you are anything like me, you use index cards as bookmarks and scribble little notes and quotes on them. *lol* I have got to get 'Small Wonder' now b/c of your recommendation. Thanks. ~ Feral ~ To understand the heart and mind of a person, look not at what he has already achieved, but at what he aspires to. -Kahlil Gibran, mystic, poet, and artist (1883-1931) ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~> , genie bottle <geniesflower> wrote: > Hey, has anyone been reading the latest book by Barbara Kingsolver, > Small Wonder?
