Dog lovers

What's a graceful way of doing this, I wonder ;=) Okay, forget grace -

here goes:

 

Some of you may have noticed that I run a small dog list - Townhounds -

for, well, for dogs in towns, or rather for dog guardians in towns. We

have two beagles, usually thought of as hunting dogs and properly

belonging in the country. The fact is that we actually live in town -

right smack in the middle of the city - with them, and in an apartment

building to boot. We are aware that we are not the only ones with

hounds, hound mixes, other sporting/hunting dogs (like spaniels,

dachshunds, etc.), herding dogs, and other sometimes large dogs that

people usually think of as belonging in the country or at the very least

in the outer suburbs. Not by a long shot!

 

While there maybe a difference of opinion as to where dogs 'belong' and

certainly whether or not such dogs should be in towns, the fact is if

you have the dog you have the dog and you're not going to change it in

for a different model everytime you have to move ;=) So Townhounds began

as an information plus support list for those interested in finding good

ways to cope with dogs in towns/cities and to train them for the

peculiarities of city living - as well as coping with the problems that

other people cause because you have them ;=)

 

If anyone is interested, please consider this an invitation to join. All

breeds are welcome. We are a very small group, but we are getting along

just fine. The only cautionary note I would make is that so-called

'hunting' dogs (for those who have 'em) or not, this is not a list to

discuss hunting - nor to discuss farming our dogs out rather than keep

them as pets in town. This is not a *vegetarian* dog list, by the way

(although, as some of you may recall, both our beagles are on a

vegetarian diet, it's not something that I would wish to impose on

others).
