Guest guest
My husband and I had a recent hassle at a restaurant with someone from out of town we had thought of as a good friend. He knows we are both veggie and we had lunched out with him on several other occasions. Somehow, several months later, his patience with our feeding patterns has worn thin. His anti-vegetarian stance wasn't to persuade us to eat meat or fish - he had fish - but to pick at our menu choices as we were making them. You know: 'Oh the stock will be out of a packet' and 'I tried that once and it's no good' and 'Do you really think the chef is up to that challenge?' - that sort of thing. When I pointed out that he didn't seem to be as sympathetic to vegetarians as I had thought (more tactfully, of course) he said that he'd make a good vegetarian because he could do without meat and fish. I pointed out that the fact was that he not only wasn't doing without (and why should he, of course) but that he had spoiled the menu for both of us. His reply? 'Don't be silly - there's a lovely salad you can enjoy!' I nearly burst out laughing at that ;=) Then my dh and I ordered our original choices - not great food, but, hey, we were there for the company ;=) - right? best, pat - canada -- PAT (In London, Ontario) Email List: townhounds- (townhounds/) Personal Email: SANTBROWN Personal Webpage: http://www.angelfire.com/art/pendragon/ ---------- * " Until he extends the circle of compassion to all living things, man will not himself find peace.
