Guest guest
Everything finds it's way into the mammary glands...It's just whether or not it's safe for the baby to ingest, and to what degree it is ingested. All medications given to a lactating woman have to be safe for the baby because they will pollute breastmilk. The water in a baby's body does a great job adulterating certain chemicals (like alcohol, if not in excess). There is a birth control pill that's given to lactacting women that is strictly progesterone...No estrogen. The reason lactating women cannot take estrogen is because it inhibits milk production. It's not that the horomones or chemicals in the pill contaminate the breastmilk...Just combats the production. Guest guest
The point I was trying to make (badly!) was that, if the DHA from flaxseed oil is not making it into the breast milk, and based upon my faulty idea about the birthcontrol, would it be safe to assume that the DHA is being used by the mother even if it isn't being expressed in the breast milk. Hope that clears up some of my confusion! -dawn , Allison Nations <allyanne2001> wrote: > Everything finds it's way into the mammary > glands...It's just whether or not it's safe for the > baby to ingest, and to what degree it is ingested. > All medications given to a lactating woman have to be > safe for the baby because they will pollute > breastmilk. Guest guest
My guess is no. If the woman were to have an amount sufficient for herself then it should appear in her breastmilk. Whatever benefit (or detriment) the mother would receive would also be received by babe. But, that's a great question and deserves more research. I'm definitely not a know all of anatomy and physiology. Guest guest
Some properties of herbs, medications, etc., do get into breastmilk but depending on it's absorption is if the baby gets enough to benefit or do harm. If you want to ask a professional that's very knowledgeable visit www.breastfeedingbasics.com IBCLC -Anne Smith is great.
