Thanks! Crudus in latin means raw. Crudites is French for raw things. It's pronounced crew-dee-tays (or, more correctly, tehs) with the accent on the last syllable, as always in French words. In buffets, it means sticks of raw carrot, cucumber, celery and flowerets of cauliflower etc... that are arranged around a bowl of dip like guacamole, hummus or whatever. You grab the stick, dip it in the dip and then put it in your mouth. Okay, the ranch dip I don't know, let's leave the answer to Sherri who made it!
