Guest guest
At least I hope your's was merry. According to my Maxfield Parrish calendar Winter Solstice officially happened at 1:15am, (GMT), but according to the radio broadcaster I heard last night it happened around 7:30pm (GMT). But I am not a stickler for those types of details. I just welcome the return of the blessed light and enjoyed a quiet recognition of it with candlelight. I have been quite busy. First my Grams was rushed to the hospital and she lives back in NY, so I was keeping off my computer as much as I could for phone updates etc. Also there is the usual hustle and bustle that goes with this time of year. I make candles and have been furiously pouring them for last-minute gift giving, not to mention my own use during this yuletide season. I promise that after the new year begins I will get back to posting recipes on a more regular schedule. I have greatly enjoyed reading all that you have posted; especially the finger food ideas. Shawn, that recipe you posted brought me a chuckle. :::hick::: My mother used to make a delicious rum cake around Christmas. I think she also indulged a bit while baking, " A little for the cake.... a little more for me.... " I hope everyone is doing well and enjoying the season! Christmas countdown begins! :::coffeemug salute::: ~ P_T ~ I have never been contained except I made the prison. -Mary Evans, actress (1888-1976)
Guest guest
merry everything to you as well! we decided to make the first annual yule log torching event happen on the front deck (just in case) and the only thing that burned was the candles we had made (we drilled holes to stick 'em in for ignition of the log) and the herbs I had been saving from the oils I had made with them (very good accelerant- sunflower and olive oils!). The kids enjoyed it though and the fire did smell very good while it lasted! Also made some really great Solstice cookies: your favorite sugar cookie recipe lots of sprinkles of all different kinds make up the sugar cookies according to your recipe. roll the cookies into 1 " balls. have the children press their thumb into the cookie ball and proceed to fill the divet (sp) as full as possible with chocolate chips, magic sprinkles, etc... bake for a bit, making sure not to catch the " filling " on fire. viola! also, I've got one and 1/2 down with the flu (the baby was only sick once) and was wondering about anything that works as well as chicken soup to fix 'em up. I am pretty impressed though. Last year they waited until we were actually sitting at my father's house to get sick at xmas dinner!! cross your fingers they miss this holiday too! -dawn Mail Plus - Powerful. Affordable.
