Guest guest
Nope, the spiders were not dangerous at all. In fact, my neighbors would pick them up and put them outside. They thought I was totally nuts for being scared of the things. But, not as crazy as they are. Spiders at least look yucky. Dominicans are terrified of FROGS! Yup, frogs. And no, there is not a single poisonous frog on the entire island. In fact, other than the rare centipeede and the non-lethal scorpion, which were mainly limited to the other side of the island where it was dry, there was nothing toxic on the island at all. (Tarantulas aren't toxic to human, but I still killed the blasted creatures. They jump! The biggest one I ever saw there was the size of a dinner plate, I ran, it chased. Much scared. I never saw one in my house though, but I did find one in an American friend's house... out came the machete!) But frogs... they would kill the things if they saw one. I tried to educate them on how wonderful frogs are, but I guess it is like trying to tell me that spiders in bed are not a big deal... Just goes to show how much what we fear is a cultural related thing and nothing based on reality. Genie Y!
