Guest guest
Well my dad is not fond of animals really. I always have to yell at him for yelling at the cats not to meow (what a ridiculous request!), and he's just quite an annoying man, to be honest. But I remember having a lot of gerbils growing up. I don't really know why my parents chose gerbils, but that was it. I remember they bit a lot, and I'm sure we didn't care for them correctly (it's all pretty much hazy in my memory, since I was younger than 9 at the time). When we moved to NE Philly, I asked my mom if I could have a hamster, and that was my first one, although unfortunately (and I feel SO guilty for this now) he wasn't taken care of as well as he should have been either... But I do remember taking him out a lot and I have ONE picture of him (actually, might have been a she... had an identity crisis, though, because I changed it's name so many times). Needless to say, my hammies now are SPOILED ROTTEN and they're my babies, although I do have one (a human child, that is, LOL). I also remember having to BEG (and this involved days/weeks/months of crying, begging, groveling, and doing every chore imaginable) to get a dog... I finally got her to put the little chore chart up and after I had done everything I was supposed to do for a month, she told me I could only have a cat... God was I disappointed ! But that's when we got Axl from the SPCA (he's a bright orange tabby, very stand-offish... will hardly let me touch him, but I love him anyways). Then another year (and more groveling and crying later), we got Ziggy, who is the most overweight cat. I swear, he is Obese and I keep trying to do stuff about it, but the whole house has to comply... see he eats Axl's leftover food and that's how he gets so fat ! He doesn't even eat table scraps... anyway, to make a long story even longer, I also had 2 cats and a dog briefly when I lived in TX, but that's another story altogether ! Now I have a question... Does anyone feed their cats/dogs vegetarian diets? If so, I'd like recipes for this, as I want to take over the feeding of the cats from my mom especially to control Ziggy's weight, but feel uncomfortable about the meat thing... I've heard it's not so great to feed a cat a vegetarian diet, though, so if anyone also makes their pets food that is not vegetarian, I'd take those recipes, too... If I was forced to, I suppose I'd buy tuna/fish or organic meat (ugh), but just for the cats... Sorry this was so long ! Our vet even approved it.
