Taco Seasoning Mix

This is one of those recipes that is just plain handy to have around. It

doesn't

have all the MSG and red-dye-junk that so many of the packaged taco

seasonings have in the market. Also it is made from spices you already have

and you can adjust them to your taste. It works great and you can mix up

some in advance and store in packets of foil. It mixes well with Yves Ground

Round. In fact, my meat eating family members prefer this to the meat-

version in our tacos. Fix a can of veggie refried beans, some shredded

cheese, tomatoes, lettuce, sour cream, salsa, and your choice of soft or

crunchy shells, and it makes a quick throw-together dinner.

2 tsp. instant minced onion

1 tsp. salt ~*~ I cut this way back to suit my taste 1/4 tsp is enough

1 tsp chili pwdr.

1/2 tsp cornstarch

1/2 tsp crushed red pepper

1/2 tsp instant minced garlic ~*~ garlic pwdr works fine, just cut back a bit

unless you are the type who can never have too much garlic.

1/4 tsp dried oregano

1/2 tsp ground cumin

Combine all ingredients in a small bowl and then spoon into a labeled foil

packet. Use within 6 months.

Directions for making taco filling:

1 1/2 lb yves ground round or your own prefered brand of ground meat

substitute

1/2 cup water

1 pkg. taco seasoning mix, above

Mix together and simmer until it is thickened and warm. Then serve as you

like in taco shells.
