Heart Disease is the number one cause of death in the United States. Researchers in search of longevity secrets have done extensive research of cultures around the world, specifically the Hunza of Pakistan, the Vilcabamba of Ecuador, and the Georgia Russia people in Northern Europe. In each of these cultures a good portion of the population lives well beyond 100 years of age. The common denominator for these ageless wonders is strong healthy hearts. The lifestyle necessary for maintaining a strong health heart is regular exercise, breathing clean fresh air, eating whole nutritious foods, and emotional poise. These attributes are woven into the daily fabric of life of the cultures mentioned above. Li Ching-Yuen, a master taoist and herbalist, reportedly lived to an advanced age of 252. He died in 1933 and was born in 1677... Amazing. One of his secrets to a long life is to "keep a quiet heart." Hmm, how do we keep a quiet heart? There isn't a simple answer but a good start would be through exercise, proper diet and fasting, rest, and emotional poise. With the colder temperatures of the winter season, your appetite will naturally gravitate to the thicker heavier foods. The heavier foods will thicken the blood so you will feel more comfortable with the colder temperatures. With thicker blood your body will be more apt to suffer from ailments such as the common cold, flu, asthma, etc. Please, to find relief from these ailments do not turn to medications and vaccinations. When your diet consists of heavier food, especially starches, fats and proteins (healthy and unhealthy), those foods are usually mucus forming foods. It is not advisable to totally eliminate mucus producing foods from your diet, especially in the winter. However, you can certainly overdo it. If you overdid it for the Thanksgiving holiday you are probably now feeling the pain (congestion, sniffing, coughing, nausea, etc.). Balance is always the key. Common sense will tell us to eat foods that stick to the ribs, so to speak. The winter time is ideally a time of the year when we should definitely eat less food in general. Our internal organ system still needs cleaning and maintenance no matter what season it is. Rather than use food to heat our bodies, we should rely on exercise (walking, deep breathing, light jogging, yoga, etc.) as much as possible. When there is movement, you are bringing more oxygen into the body. You are also burning mucus which will help to eliminate congestion and other ailments. Most importantly, this is all leading to a healthier and more efficient heart. Our lifestyles have to integrate movement so our blood can efficiently travel throughout our body. The less obstructions, the better our blood is able to travel. The blood is the nourishment for everything in our body, from our hair, eyes, bones, nails, skin, brain, etc. A good barometer for the efficiency of your circulation is in your eyes. If you are loosing your eyes and even have trouble reading these words then that is a good indication of obstructions in terms of blood flow in that area of your body.In the Caribbean, they say the coconut water "Washes the Heart." The heart is the engine for the circulatory system. If we want to keep it working efficiently, the cleaner it is the better. In terms of the kinds of foods to bring into our body for optimum heart health, coconut water is the number one food for obtaining and maintaining that objective, a healthy heart and blood. Coconut water is more than just water, it is a whole food, complete with everything needed for us to live on. Many of us suffering from heart related problems such as hypertension and heart disease or if you have cold hands and feet, the heart is being overworked. To turn to stimulants whether they be herbal or "natural" is not the best route. The true answer is to keep the house (the body) as clean as possible. We can overdo the use of natural stimulants and become overly reliant on them especially when there is much debris, obstructions in the body that has to be overcome. Remember, the goal is a quiet heart. When we do our regular cleaning and maintenance through proper diet and fasting through the use of coconut water then the heart does not have to do much work at all to get the blood flowing efficiently throughout the entire body.
