Guest guest
Greetings Members: Summer is over now and I have mixed emotions. This was my first summer in retirement mode and while I am and have been enjoying retirement emensely, I must admit, keeping necessary staples (food) in the house has been very challenging. I love the rural living very much, don't get me wrong and the challenge sort of keeps me on track. There are no nearby establishments that provide organic choices short of an hour's drive. Looking back, our drives to Glut, Roots, Davids and other Organic Markets when we were in Rockville, MD would take 45 to 60 minuets and Glut was our favorite by far. It was always more than just shopping, it was "thee" meeting place! We always drop in on our visits back to the area. I'm calling on all our members residing in the Raleigh/Durham/Chaple Hill areas and anyone having knowledge of the area to share information regarding organic shopping and eateries that aren't listed in www.vegetarianusa.com. I want to thank Lynda and Mark for sharing information on shopping in the Richmond and Colonial Heights, VA areas. Ron and I have 2 navigators, a traditional one, Garmin, and my Laptop dubs as the second GPS. Sometimes I feel like we're on our private "SUV Enterprise." We've been doing what we like the most, riding and finding places of interest. Most interesting though, have been the local growers plus our neighbors who provided us with LOTS of summer produce. When you see us again don't be surprised if we resemble Watermelons, Peaches, Tomatoes, Cucumbers, Eggplant, or Summer Squash. We have received bags or baskets nearly every week on our front porch with something from our neighbors' gardens. Next month we have an opportunity to pick our own Champagne Grapes from our neighbor who has acres and acres of vineyards. Also in Wise, VA we will try to make it to another Grape Vineyard that opens to the public for about a week. Oh, I almost forgot, as soon as I organize my photos I plan to post pics of "How Our Garden Grew" this year. Stay tuned. If anyone can help us we would greatly appreciate it.
