Guest guest
Hello, I'm Zen. I just got out of the hospital and have decided that I'd better stop playing Russian Roulette with my life/health. I'm reading a lot about going raw and the ph balance. Besides having 100 unwanted pounds I have high blood pressure, I'm diabetic and now I have congestive heart failure. I may be asking a lot of questions but I'm so willing to learn how to live my best life. Namaste, Zen p.s. What is Miso and where do I find it?--- On Mon, 8/25/08, E. Rice-Fells <shortydemp wrote: E. Guest guest
Any natural food store should have it. If you live in NOVA (Northern Virginia), you can pick up some at MOM's. -Tino Zen White <zenbaby2 Tuesday, August 26, 2008 6:28:51 AM Re: A Few RAW Receipes! and newbie Hello, I'm Zen. Guest guest
Hi Zen, Miso, respectively known as fermented soybean paste, is a savory, high-protein seasoning made from soybeans, grain (usually rice or barley), salt, water, and Aspergillus oryzae culture. It comes in a variety of flavors and colors such as deep chocolate browns, reddish browns, and russets, through ambers, clarets and cinnamon reds on up to creamy beiges and sunlight yellows for some sweeter, more modern varieties. They have textures that resemble soft peanut butter, also a variety of aromas. Miso can be found in a several markets such as MOM, Glut, Whole Foods, Roots, Elwood Thompson if you live in the Richmond, VA area, and of course in most Asian Markets. Although some of these markets will carry the Brand Name "South River Miso," for the higher end varities you'll have to visit http://www.southrivermiso.com/index_steam.html. There, you will find specials and once in a while offerings that will not be found in stores. Be sure to take a look at the site and be ready to place your order beginning Sept. 15, 2008. I must admit that at this point in our lifestyle change, the most soy products we consume will only be Nama Shoyu and occasionally, miso when making a special recipe. However, if you are attempting to transition from the SAD or cooked vegetarian to raw vegan, some soy products should help the process but plan not to use them long term. Hope this helps. If anyone else has any information pertaining to miso, please chime in.
