Greeting all,

As some of you may know, I am in the process of moving out of state. For those of you who I have not yet told, I have just purchased another home in Pennsylvania. We thought long and hard before making the decision but it was for the nest of my family and that comes first.

So I know many of your next reaction is what about the co-op. We'll I have had a plan in action since we put a contract on the house. So here is were a real co-op comes in to play.

Starting next July we will start having smaller drop of points through the city. We will be combining the co-op here in DC with the one in North Carolina and make one combined co-op called "The Co-operative". So the co-op will have volunteers from North Carolina through Maryland for drop offs. Now for the volunteers it will be a "work for food" program where the drop off person will get paid in food for there time and energy. We will also limit the number of persons per drop off point so that the volunteer doesn't get over whelmed. There will also be a minimum number for any drop off point to be formed as well.

Another big change would be the days that orders handled on. All order list will be sent out earlier, and orders will be due earlier. We will also change the day of pick-ups to Saturday and quite possibly Wednesday as well if we have a lot of co-op drop offs.

So what needs to happen next?

I need any interested person to contact me if they are interested in being a drop off point. Yes you can do it in your house if you feel comfortable with folks coming by to pick up food. You will need to handle your drop off point at least 1 time a month ( remember the co-op is a 2nd and 4th week co-op).

So if you have co-workers or neigbors that want to start a co-op then this would your chance to do so. Ordering would go the same way, with the same farmers we currenly use, but I will not be so hands on at doing the co-op, my role will be more so managing and inspecting, making sure we continue to get good prices.

Also I would like from everyone to send over any items that they would like the co-op to add of it's offerings. Our intention is to offer a lot more than we currently do. So your input is very much so needed.

Any finally email any suggestions and question. The telephone number for the co-op will still be functioning however I will be busy moving so it will be easier to contact me via email.

This is a very brief email that I know doesn't totally touch on all the changes but I wanted to give you all some information before any big changes start.

Because of the big change and me forgetting what week it is trying to take care of moving will have to cancel co-op this week so I do appologize for the inconvience.

I will keep everyone informed as to what drop off will be formed and where. I will also work to get the list out earlier so that tose who need to pay in advance can mail them, prior to your co-op day.

Thanks

Tanikka

Regarding Co-ops. There is also a organic local grown (as much as possible) co-op called 5 a day CSA www.5adaycsa.com which meets at some Silver Spring and other areas. I'm not sure about DC. But you can check out the website. Vickie is not a raw fooder, but has great stuff.

I have had a sit down with Dr. Reese before she started her Co-op.

She does know her stuff. The main difference between the co-op (

formally dc produce co-op) and her's is that we don't charge a

membership fee (she charge $50.00 membership fee).
