Greetings Family!

With the passing of the equinox we are officially into the resurrection of nature season. Notice the trees, the flowers, and start a garden. It's also a time when a lot of detoxification is going on. Latent mucus is coming up from DEEP inside our body tissues. Embrace the healing process, go on a fast and work to eliminate mucus forming foods (dairy, starch, soy, animal flesh).

Love & Light, Khepra

A Sick Society

Using Community to Heal

At the conclusion of the Mojo Juice Detox this previous week the group got into nearly two hours of very stimulating conversation concerning the lack of men present at any health function with relation to women. The lack of men was the impetus of the discussion which then lead the conversation to male/female relationships as it relates to health, energy, etc. Without getting into the particulars of the discussion, the thought occurred to me that the issues and concerns that we were discussing with much compassion was rooted in the deeper issues we have in our larger society. A society that is unbalanced and sick at its core.

Often we may focus on ourselves in terms of detoxing our individual bodies, but how do we go about performing a larger societal detox? The accepted lifestyle behaviors are so common place in our society, from legal to illegal drug use, to the diets which can lead us down the road to a slow painful death. This tragic lifestyle is primary driven by the fact that we all are economic slaves to the American system. Therefore we will make our life choices in terms of what will bring in more money even if it slowly undermines our health and well being. We have to continually find balance. To be financially healthy is a great thing, but when that takes precedence over your physical health, then your priorities are not in order.

Financial precedence can lead us to being in environments that are very unhealthy, where you would have to constantly swim upstream against the current if you are trying to do better. The peer effects ripple down into the smaller communities that we are involved in, which then permeates our families and relationships, then of course, our core being. What I am getting at is that we are heavily influenced by our outer environment, which is largely driven by money.

The community factor in healing and detox is critical to each of our individual growth. Nearly everyone who has undergone my particular detox has succeeded and the primary element involved in that success is the fact that a group of us come together and we all become accountable and responsible for our success.

Align yourself with people who are at where you would like to be. Disease is a process where the body has to manage obstructions at the expense of your vitality. It can be very difficult to reverse the trend of going in the direction of premature death. However that is the reality for this economic driven culture.

Coming back full circle to the lack of male presence at healing events, classes, workshops, retreats, etc., most men are not open to change unless there is some serious pain. And even with the presence of pain, the addictions may still overpower so therefore no change for the better.

For most of us to survive and attempt to thrive in this culture we have to generate a lot of yang or assertive energy at the expense of our vitality and longevity. Most men are caught up in chasing, hustling, doing whatever is necessary to get the dollar, definitely much more so than women. Women who are just as assertive as men are definitely undermining their health by raising too much testosterone. Too much testosterone in women can lead to infertility, uterine fibroids, and other feminine problems. Women who are wise enough to nurture themselves are primarily motivated by looking better and becoming more attractive so they are more open to healing. Yang energy or male dominated energy can be stiff and therefore resistant to change as mentioned above. The key for men is that we are weak at being flexible. So we need to concentrate on our flexibility and be more open in all realms of life.

This is the problem with male professional athletes whose joints, bones, ligaments break or snap because of too much strength, too little flexibility. Women dominant energy is yin, and yin is receptive to being molded and is much more open to change. So therefore we find more women present at healing functions.

These are rapidly changing times and that calls for flexibility if we are to adapt, survive, and thrive. Understand the community aspect in assisting each other in healing, and let us move forward together for better quality living.

Recipe of the Month - Nori RollsEvery time I do any variation of this recipe at the café, I can't make enough of it. People love it. In fact I made this recipe today. I will share what I did. It's relatively quick to make and well balanced nutritionally. It has 2-3 components, which are a nutmeat, diced avocado and/or tomato, and a grated vegetable, I prefer beets but you can substitute carrots for the beets.

Nutmeat 2 cups soaked walnuts, grind in food processor with S-blade

2-3 stalks celery, minced

1 Tbs minced garlic

1 Tbs minced rosemary

1 Tbs minced tarragon

1 cup marinated sliced shitake mushrooms, soaked in 1 cup of extra virgin oil and 1/4 cup nama shoyu for 15 minutes

1 tsp real salt or celtic sea salt

Drain marinade off mushrooms and mix all ingredients well in mixing bowl.

Beet Salad

2 cups grated beets

1/2 cup olive oil

1/4 cup apple cider vinegar

1/4 cup nama shoyu

Mix well in seperate mixing bowl.

Dice 2 ripe avocados or tomatoes and collect in seperate bowl. Lay nori paper on cutting board, then place in the following order on the nori paper length wise, the nutmeat, the diced avocado, and then the beet salad. Then carefully roll the nori paper (it takes some practice, it's ok to mess up ;-) ). At the end of the roll with about 1/2 inch left, use the juice from either the beets or the tomato to wet the end of the nori paper and complete the roll. This process is demonstrated to perfection on Aris LaTham's Sunfire DVD video. You can now cut into 5-6 bite size pieces but before you cut, make sure your knife is really sharp and once it rolled let it sit for about 5 minutes to allow the nori become one with the

delights rolled inside. Let me know how this works out for you!

"Most women in the modern world never think twice about the decision to give birth in a hospital. Like their mothers and grandmothers before them, they imagine a time when they'll pack their bags, call their doctors and rush to the fluorescent lights and sterile sheets of their baby's first home. But in a time when C-Sections are inexplicably on the rise, health costs are skyrocketing, and personal care is hard to find, some women are questioning this paradigm."
