Guest guest
Have any of you seen the article in the Balt. Sun from 1/27/08 about the book, Over Treated? Oh I was sooo delighted to read about it. The author is from Annapolis and she is a science journalist who's worked for more than 20 years writing about medical info. Here's my favorite part of the article. She says, "Only half of what doctors do is backed up by real, solid evidence. That is crazy. We think of medicine as being scientific, but in fact it is not, half the time. And I think that even that estimate is probably being overly generous. The problem is we have basically handed over control of medical research to the pharmaceutical companies. The drug companies pay for about 80 percent of clinical trials. We've basically said, 'Ok, we'll let the drug industry take care of it.' Well, the drug industry is not interested in studying the stuff that needs to be studied. Their first responsibility is to stockholders. There first responsibility is to sell more drugs...." www.overteated.com FINALLY someone speaking the truth :-) Nancy www.healthylivingstrategies.net
