Guest guest
I belong to another that requires initial introductions from new members. Members are free to lurk after that, but this serves as a courtesy to other group members to let them know who is on the site. Of course people can lie about who they are, but the intent is to make others aware when someone new joins. New members are given a week to introduce themselves, at which point, their membership is revoked upon non-compliance. The introduction can include the following: Past diet Current diet Dietary goals What you're looking to get out of the site New members can divulge additional info as they please. In addition, existing membes are required to check-in during a roll- call about once per year. The purpose of this is to confirm to the group who is still on the site, and it gives the new members a chance to know who the older members are. Existing members who do not respond to the roll call within some period of time, are dropped from the group. Of course this takes more administrative work, but it really works out very well. I think in this so-called information age, we need to define rules of etiquette. Isn't it rude to walk into a new environment and just start talking or eavesdropping without introducting yourself? Perhaps my Southern constitution is getting the best of me, but I think it just plain makes sense. --Deirdre
