Guest guest
WE started DC Produce Co-op for that same reason. WE go directly to farmers all over and get cases of produce every week. To be exact 51 cases this week (Oh and a bin)! I list the co-op sheet on this list serve every week! WE are addressing the issue of keeping the real prices of fruits and veggies at farmer wholesale prices. At the same time I have to express some frustration. We are a co-op, everyone joins in together to buy, no one gets paid. But week after week after week I see post ALL the time about call Wholefoods, call Shoppers and ask for case prices. WHY NOT CALL THE CO-OP. We are even cheaper than Lancaster on a lot of things! I ran a produce distribution company for years. I know where all the Shoppers and Wholefoods go for there food. WHY Because we sold to them, or knew who did. Now I use a skill I have to give back to everyone, but all I see are complaints about prices when WE are actually doing something about it. We function year round, no co-op fees, no gimmicks, just black folks trying to help each other out with food cost, certified organic produce. I don't really understand why I keep seeing call Wholefoods, call Shoppers, call this market call that market. Their stuff sits in a warehouse for week sometimes before it gets to you, we get our straight from the farm. We may have some glitches from week to week, but at least we are doing something about it! With my grip and frustration all in one, I guess, bad choice of words, I'm saying why aren't more of us working with us. You are raw foodists why wouldn't you want to cut your food cost and help others because the more of us who buy together the lower our prices go, because we then can out to any of our 87+ farms we have contacts with and say look we need more cases and a better deal. If I sound a little rude I apologize I'm just a little tired of working my tail off taking away from my children's time to build something for our community, and every few weeks all I see is call some Grocery Chain who will not build anything better in your community but will gladly take your money when we do this every week for free! So if you still want to call every farmer around not a problem I probably have a direct contact at that farm already. For those who do not already know! DC Produce Co-operative is a free co-op here in DC with a sister location in NC with a large variety of (and if not on this weeks list give us a call and you can still get it) produce. We have a , soon to have a published website our number is 202-678-7090. Any questions let me know. I just had to get it off my chest! Guest guest
Thanks. That is the answer I was looking for. How can I get involved? I would like to get something setup in the Centreville area. By the way. I am a software engineer so if you need someone for the website, don't be afraid to ask.I just started my own group: POISONINGaNATION.com , but have not started recruiting anyone, and am still working on the website. I am still in the planning phase. I am sure we can work together. If I buy some stuff directly from you, where can I go to pick it up? Thanks.--ScottDon't under estimate the wisdom of nature. If man made it, don't eat it.POISONINGaNATION.com--- nikka53 wrote:"nikka53" <nikka53 Subject: Re: Addressing the Cost of Fruits - WHAT ABOUT THE CO-OP?Fri, 14 Sep 2007 08:21:08 -0000 WE started DC Produce Co-op for that same reason.
