Weight Release in RF Newbies (WAS: Why limit calories from fat? - Addendum)

Hi Poppy,

Yes, I understand all that you say.

It is completely " normal " for new raw fooders to release as much as 20

pounds in their first month or so. Most of this is water weight, which comes

off most quickly. Body fat comes of much more slowly, over time, which is

why the rate of release slows and stabilizes (assuming one is on a stable

program).

The release of water weight occurs because of a reduction in salt, first,

and because the digestive load you are placing upon your system has been

reduced. By the latter comment, I mean that the foods you are eating now are

far easier to digest ... your system uses far less energy and other

resources to digest, assimilate, and eliminate ... than was the case before.

But none of this has to do with eating lots of fat; all of it has to do with

raw, generalized simplification, and probably a reduction in total caloric

intake.

Please please please ... ignore all the " standard messages out there " ... if

ANY of those people had a clue about creating health, they would have done

so by now!

Enjoy your wonderful progress,

Elchanan

We newbies need it though. It's comfort food, keeps us from ditching

the whole plan. I try not to eat more than 1/2c of nuts a day but I

know sometimes I go over (usually at the buffet LOL) and do salads

only for a few days. I've read that sprouted nuts/seeds contain less

fat than raw nuts/seeds, although I imagine only marginally so. In

any case, I'm still dropping about 2lbs per week. The standard

message out there is that it is not healthy to drop weight rapidly,

so I'm using the scale as a gauge. Also I do not feel hungry, which

I take as a good sign. I eat a variety of greens. I need to go back

to sprouting on my own. It's fall so too late to plant in my area

but you betcha I've got plans for spring! :)
