Hi everyone,

Whenever I write a substantive post outside my home PathOfHealth group, I typically cross-post (XPOST) it there as well. In this instance, Bob Farrell, co-founder of that group, felt inspired to write a rather uplifting addendum to my original comments. Enjoy!

Best to all,

Elchanan

Hello all!

I just wanted to take a minute and to add to, and AMPLIFY what Elchanan has written about rebuilding our glycogen reserves after physical activity.

I first learned about this from Doug Graham's fabulous book(let) "On Nutrition and Physical Performance: A Handbook for Athletes and Fitness Enthusiasts" in early May '05, and have been following these two ideas passionately since.

I can personally attest that this after playout-refueling, combined with the sports drink (water (32 oz. or so...), banana (1-2) and a stalk of celery) while playing out, make an absolutely unbelievable difference in recovery times, and muscle "soreness". I almost never go to do serious physical movement activities without these two "friends" - I call them my playout buddies. (1) I can do strenuous workout sessions of 3-4 hours daily for multiple days in a row, with almost zero muscle soreness! Yeehaw! The other really nice thing is that while I literally have people all around me "cramping up" and unable to play, I've never had a muscle cramp since following these recommendations. MAGIC!

If you've never experienced the difference this can make, I recommend it highly. Give it a go! (translation: do this! don't just read about it: do this!)

I actually had someone watching me pour some of my sports drink today, and asked me if it was lemonade, and then I explained what it was: grand fun!

Good article, Elchanan: thanks!

best,

Bob

(1) My heart rate monitor is another workout buddy - separate article on that some day - I'm working on a lesson for this my private educational endeavors.
