Realizing the positive benefits of yogurt on the body's digestive system, Pete knew his idea worked this new variety of cheese could provide both flavor and the nutritional benefits of yogurt for HEINI'S customers. Today there are few actual cheese producers in Ohio's Amish Country, but back

then, local competition was fierce. Peter was looking for a way to insure that his family business would continue to grow and prosper. As a result of his efforts, HEINI'S YOGURT CULTURED CHEESE was born and WOW was it ever a difference maker! HEINI'S YOGURT CULTURED CHEESE has grown from being one of Peter's dreams to becoming a natural cheese enjoyed throughout our country because it offers a mild creamy texture, creative variety of flavors, and the benefits of digesting live, yogurt culture. Nest's own Jody Cutler and Anastasia MacDonald recently spoke at the American Public Gardens Association's annual conference in Washington, DC. Speaking on a panel for the session entitled "Reaching for the Triple Top Line," they addressed various aspects of running a successful green business. The "Triple Top Line" concept challenges businesses to be environmentally, socially and economically responsible. Many public gardens have become more eco-sensitive in recent years, but most have not carried that awareness over to their gift shops, restaurants, or administrative offices. Jody and Anastasia encountered a receptive audience eager to learn more about creating an eco-friendly, socially just, and profitable

business. Thanks to community member and conference organizer Stephanie Oberle for the invitation to share the Conscious Corner vision! Corn Based Clothing Nest has introduced you to soy and bamboo clothing, and now it's time for corn textiles. We recently started carrying socks made from corn fiber. Corn is a renewable resource, and these socks are wonderfully soft and durable. They come in sizes and styles for women and men. Fair Trade Day- July 28th Nest will be having a Fair Trade day on

Saturday, July 28th. Some of our local fair-trade jewelry importers will be present, will be offering samples of fair trade food and there will be a free raffle for fair-trade prizes. Monday-Saturday: 9am-8pm Sunday: 10am-7pm It's Getting Warmer for You and Your Pet The "dog days" of summer can be dangerous for dogs, especially those left inside hot cars. Every year, countless dogs die after being locked in cars while their guardians work, visit, shop, or run other errands. These tragic deaths are entirely preventable. Please never leave your dog in the car. Visit the SPCA Website for tips to prevent overheating this summer. Bark's website is coming soon to www.barknatural.com Local Farm Spotlight: Spiral Path Farms Featured Local Farm: Spiral Path Farms Spiral Path Farms Spiral Path Farm is located in scenic western Perry County, PA, between the Tuscarora and Blue Mountain ranges. Spiral Path Farm is certified organic and food safety certified. During the growing

season, Roots Market receives delicious zucchini, yellow squash, and a variety of other herbs and vegetables from Spiral Path. For a quick run down of the Green laws passed by the

Maryland State Legislature see below: Net Energy Metering/Renewable Energy Portfolio Standard: Helps electric customers with solar panels sell excess power on the grid and requires utilities to increase the amount of renewable energy they buy. Critics worried it might result in higher electric rates. Energy Efficiency Standards Act: Establishes new efficiency standards for products including walk-in refrigerators and freezers; commercial hot food holding cabinets; and some residential furnaces. Terrapin Protection Act: Prohibits the commercial harvesting of diamondback terrapins and restricts the noncommercial taking or possession of the turtles. Another bill allows the Department of Natural Resources to restrict the catching snapping turtles. Wind power: A new law streamlines the approval process for wind power generating facilities, provided a public hearing is held on the project. Critics of the bill

contend it will lessen environmental reviews and facilitate the clear-cutting of mountain tops for the construction of 40-foot turbines. Darfur Protection Act: Requires the State Retirement and Pension System to encourage companies in its investment portfolio to conduct business responsibly in Sudan and authorizes the system to divest from companies whose actions there might promote human rights violations.
