June 10 - The short morning yoga practice will be dedicated to honoring the following:1) Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender Pride Month2) World Environment Day (June 5)3) National Men's Health Week (June 11 - 16)4) Father's Day (June 17)5) Juneteenth (June 19) is the oldest nationally celebrated commemoration of the ending of slavery in the United States. From its Galveston, Texas origin in 1865, the observance is a time for reflection, rejoicing, assessment, self-improvement and for planning the future in the African American Community.6) National HIV Testing Day (June 27).B. July 15 - The short morning yoga practice will be dedicated to sending love and light to all people in the world who are impacted by war, violence, economic and social injustice, hunger, disease, illiteracy, and poverty.C. August 19 - The short morning yoga practice will be dedicated to honoring the memory, strength, sacrifices, faith, and spirit of all Americans impacted by Hurricane Katrina in 2005; International Day of the World's Indigenous People (August 9); and International Day for the Remembrance of the Atlantic Slave Trade and its Abolition (August 23).D. September 9 - The short morning yoga practice will be dedicated to National Alcohol and Drug Addiction Recovery Month.Special kg yoga Summer Events in Malcolm X Park1) June - Summer Solstice Morning CelebrationJoin kg yoga on Thursday, June 21 at 7:00am in Malcolm X/Meridian Hill Park for a 30 minute morning meditation and sun salutation practice. The group will spend 6 minutes in meditation and practice 6 sun salutations. Everyone will be asked to:a) practice 6 additional minutes of meditation and 6 sun salutations as a part of their evening practice on June 21;b) commit to doing a home practice that includes morning and evening sessions of 6 minute meditations and 6 sun salutations for June 22-June 29; andc) dedicate their 9 day practice (June 21-29 - 108 sun salutations, 108 minutes of meditation, and 108 mindful thoughts, words, and acts that support peace) to peace and the Global Mala Project (www.globalmalaproject.org), the brainchild of yoga teacher Shiva Rea.About the Global Mala Project: The purpose of the Global Mala Project is to unite the global yoga community from every continent in the world, forming a "mala around the earth" through collective practices based upon the sacred cycle of 108. On September 21-23, Fall Equinox and the United Nations International Day of Peace, yoga studios, teachers, and organizations across the globe will create fundraising celebrations, raising funds and awareness for some of the most essential issues of our times.2) September - kg yoga's Global Mala Project for Peace Awareness: It is dedicated to reminding individuals that they have the power to create more peace in the world through mindfulness in their daily lives (what they choose to think, how they choose to communicate, what they choose to read and eat, and how they spend their money to support peace in the world). kg yoga's Global Mala Project will begin with a three month preparation process (June 21-29; July 15-23; and August 19-27). The process invites people to commit to a 9 day home practice that consists of morning and evening sessions (6 minutes of meditation and 6 sun salutations; and 108 mindful thoughts, words, and acts that support peace). At the end of the 9 day practice, participants will have completed 108 sun salutations, minutes of meditation, and mindful thoughts, words, and acts that support peace.kg yoga's Global Mala Project for Peace Awareness will be held on September 14-22. If participants would like to make financial/in-kind donations and/or volunteer with organizations that are working to sustain peace in the world, they are asked to identify them on their own. kg yoga will not be collecting any funds.a.
