First of all, I encourage everyone to please remember that: LIFE IS

NOT ALL ABOUT FOOD! LIFE is a synergistic balance of mind, body and

Spirit. Obesity, just like a multiple of other dis-eases, is a

reflection of imbalance. The imbalance can occur of any level of

LIFE, and eventually manifests itself on in the physical realm.

Within the realm of physical health, the body needs a balanced

combination of fresh air, water, exercise, relaxation, and

unadulterated, pure/organic food. Once again, it's not just food!

A phenomenon in this society is its emphasis on food (alone with sex,

of course). Thus, we are often `consumed' (not the other way around!)

by thoughts of food. From this standpoint, we must honestly look at

the factor of greed when looking at obesity. Under the general

category of food and health, we must look at: how much we eat; what

we eat; when we eat; combinations of what we eat; the state of mind

in which we eat. There are three phases of food going into, and out

of, the body: digestion, assimilation, elimination.

I have followed a regimen of combining for over 20 years: not

combining fruits and vegetables together at one meal; fruits eaten

alone on an empty stomach; melons alone, on an empty stomach; greens

with proteins, etc. This practice is followed in order to maximize

the absorption of nutrients and to minimize excess food remaining the

body due to undigested food. In addition, I have followed the

practice of not drinking and eating at the same time: fluids drank at

least one half hour before the meal, and waiting at least one hour

after a meal (sometimes longer). I have followed this practice for

the same reason stated for food combining.

We often misuse food as a way of pacifying our emotions; particularly

fear and feelings of loneliness. In short, food gives us a `sense' of

security and comfort. Eating an overabundance of fruits or sweets

often reflects a person feeling a lack of love or pleasure. This is

one of the primary reasons that processed sugar is so popular among

the masses—along with the fact that processed sugar is a drug, and

NOT a food. Nevertheless, processed sugar and pure sugar from fruit

are by no means the same! We must be careful not to fall into the

trap of judging what God/Nature has provided in its nature state,

with those human-created, processed `concoctions' called food.

Nature has provided the balance of water, minerals, vitamins, etc.,

in their proper proportions.

In the realm of mental health, an obese body will often reflect an

individual's inability to `let go' of toxic thoughts of hate, anger,

sadness, etc. There may be a failure to release thoughts and

feelings stemming from a multitude of difficult life events (i.e.,

failed relationship/marriage, withheld grudges, etc.). Since thoughts

and emotions are `things', the `matter' of those thoughts and

emotions are locked in the body, resulting in excess weight!

It is my hope that this will help others to realize that food is only

one of many tools of good, healthy Living. I have seen many

vegetarians and raw foodists who mistakenly concentrate on food, and

exclude the other various aspects of LIFE. I am particularly

concerned about those individuals who have dis-covered and learning a

purer way of LIVING.

I agree that overeating, resulting in obesity, is a symptom of larger

issues of which a person may or may not be aware. Our society is

obessessed with food due in large part to these issues. Addressing

these issues goes a long way toward helping one achieve balance and

thereby achieve an optimum weight. However, it does not negate the fact

that there are some foods an obese person needs to eat less of or avoid

in order to lose weight.
