Gastrointestinal problems, any advice...

My 17yr. old daughter will try the complete chewing of food to see if it

helps w/her gastrointestinal problems. I am again on my research rampage

trying to figure out why she frequently feels flu-like after eating some foods.

My recent quest has involved again looking at her 12wk. premature birth as

being the possible reason (her digestive system developmt. suffering as a

result), but what are the cures, who can she see, what tests?? She is about

75%

raw. She has been to see many docs over the yrs., both non-traditional and

traditional. She went on a several month elimination diet when tested by sage

labs for food allergies. That didn't really help. She can eat a suspect food

like garlic one day and it gives her the awful feeling but then a few days

later it won't bother her. Even drinking water gives her abnormal amnts. of

mucous running down the back of her throat (that is her only liquid and she

does drink at least 8 c. a day). She has extreme dry hands that are always

cold (despite wearing gloves) and her feet as well, headaches, scratchy throat,

sometimes itchy spots on feet which can only be relieved when skin broken.

She has been diagnosed w/reflex sympathetic dystrophy (feeling pain from

injury when injury has healed - nervous system continues to send pain msgs. to

brain at site of injury and elsewhere in body) and continues to have off/on

mild pain issues affecting her limbs. This is usually controlled by an active

exercise schedule. Been vegetarian since birth. We really thought that the

food allergy tests and going raw would be the answer, but its not. In fact,

she thinks that eating cooked foods gives her less of a problem w/feeling

sick afterwards.

Any one have any clues as to what the heck is going on and where can we go

from here? She gets so discouraged visiting doctors (naturopaths, osteopaths,

psychs, allopathic, etc.) and nothing helps.

Would so appreciate your thoughts.

Hi there,

That does sound very frustrating--you've been through a lot.

What is your daughter's diet like?

Have you checked out Nora Lenz's site at www.rawschool.com? There is

a good " optimal foods " chart w/explanations as to how digestible

certain foods are. She also has a good discussion group at:

http://health.Rawschool/. There is a wealth

of info in the archives. Are you familiar w/Dr. Doug Graham? His

new book, " The 80/10/10 Diet " is excellent. His site is

www.foodnsport.com. There is also another very good discussion group

at: http://health.PathOfHealth/. Audrey

Walker's web site also tells her story of healing from IBS and many

other conditions (www.rawhealing.com).

Those are my favorite resources for information and inspiration on

eating what our bodies are designed to digest.

Best wishes,

Laurie
